Pat and Maureen's Visit to Laurier Manor Yesterday

Yesterday morning Pat  helped a resident who wanted a pair of hands to pull some wires through some areas in his electric wheel chair. He is adding some lights, a rear view camera, and even hopes to attach a solar panel to charge his battery. Pat had volunteered to help him last week, and he was in the lobby waiting for her when we arrived.

They  managed to get a few things completed and he was very grateful for Pat's help. Pat even got to ride his wheel chair back to his floor.

They were doing this "engineering" on the main floor near the exit door to the garden behind the Residence. Since I passed by these two eager beavers on my way out to the garden with a female resident I took a few pictures

The weather was beautiful and we had a nice walk and she picked a few tiny flowers along the way. It was really cute. She brought them back to her room and put them in a plastic glass with a bit of water  I should have taken pictures of the beautiful garden and the tiny bouquet too. Oh well.

Facing Violence is a weekly reality for pro lifers in Canada

Pro Lifers are opposed to violence, but that is not what Joyce Arthur of Abortion Rights Action League would have you believe.  She makes false statements that WE are the violent ones and goes so low as to condone acts of violence towards us.  And many of our political leaders buy into her non truths.

I have been actively Pro Life for decades, and never have I encountered a pro life person who wasn't anything but peaceful.  In fact over the years I have seen numerous verbal and physical attacks on us from abortion supporters for simply praying or standing quietly holding a sign that says “Pray to End Abortion” And now we aren’t even allowed to do that any more.

And acts of violence towards us are virtually ignored by our liberal mainstream media. This is discrimination plain and simple and you never hear a word from our Political leaders  condemning it. Federal, Provincial, and Municipal: they are all the same. click here

Obviously I don’t expect everyone to have the same point of view that I have, but I do expect that I have a right to that point of view without being treated like a second class citizen for having it.  Isn’t that what democracy is all about?

Jonathon Van Maren sums up this double standard way better than I could ever do.  Click below to hear to Jonathan’s podcast

Abortion activists frequently lie and claim that pro-lifers pose a risk to abortion workers. The reality on the ground is that pro-lifers, often young women, are attacked with shocking regularity. Jonathon Van Maren breaks it down.

The Spirit Song - Katy Feeney

by Katy Feeney

The reception of the Sacrament of Confirmation
Is necessary for the completion of Baptismal Grace
for by the Sacrament of Confirmation
the baptized are more perfectly bound to the Church
and are enriched with a special strength of the Holy Spirit,
hence they are as true witnesses of Christ
more strictly obliged to spread and
defend the faith by word and deed.

Refrain

Come Holy Spirit take hold of my life,
Sign me with your Holy love.
Give me your gifts, Confirm me in faith,
Spirit Come

1... Spirit of Wisdom enlighten my mind
Make me see things as they are
Spirit of Wisdom enlighten my words,
Let my mouth speak words of truth.

2.  Spirit of Counsel Please show me the way
Guide me in paths that are true and straight
Allow me to lead all to know their life's work
Work in me wonders of love

3. Spirit of knowledge lead me to light
Open my eyes to your love.
Believe in me, strengthen me, deepen my faith
Let me reflect you to all.

4. Spirit of Piety strengthen my soul
Lift up my thoughts to the Lord
Marveling at your mercy so great
Fill me with Your love

Wisdom: helps us judge what is important, meaningful, purposeful, etc.

Understanding:
to know something is different from truly understanding it. I can know a lot of facts about someone, but that is different from truly understanding that person.

Counsel:
helps us differentiate between right and wrong.

Fortitude: courage and endurance.

Knowledge:
helps us to know God.

Piety:
proper reverence for God, helps us obey God out of love.

Fear of the Lord: proper disdain for sin and awe of God’s goodness and love.

Pro Lifer, do not live in fear.

Mike and I attended the  screening of UNPLANNED last evening at the Museum of Civilization in Gatineau. The movie  is the true story of Abby Johnson  the director of a Planned Parenthood clinic in Texas who quit her job in October 2009  and  walked down the street to join the Coalition for Life.  This is such an amazing story of hope, conversion and the power of prayer.

After the film, Abby answered questions with her sharp wit, her candid humour and her endearing personality. One thing she said was that we should not live in fear. The truth is on our side. For more see Pat's bog  here

Be Christ Bearers for the World

Today Father Rob Arsenault celebrates his 25th Anniversary as a priest.  How blessed are we as a parish to have been able to join in this celebration with the beautiful mass this morning followed by adoration until 4:00PM with Deacon Marc Gauthier

Father Rob and Father John concelebrated mass and Father Rob gave the homily. He spoke of sacrifice: offering up to appease God.. He quoted from Bishop Baron "Catholicism is an inversion. God offers Himself up to appease us.

On the altar we offer the simple elements of bread and wine. We offer this to God who in turn gives us the Body and Blood Soul and Divinity of His Son, Jesus Christ.

When you eat food, your body breaks it down. It becomes you. When we receive Holy Communion worthily we become more like Christ for the benefit of those who were not at mass today.

If the priest is willing to sacrifice himself for us, our role is to sacrifice ourselves for the world: to be evangelizers, to be Christ bearers.

If God can use simple elements like bread and wine He can use you and me.

Be a Christ Bearer and do not be afraid.

Father Rob also asked us to pray for priests

Viva Cristo Rey!

Yesterday Father Rob Arsenault had the entire congregation saying Viva Cristo Rey during his homily. I thought it was awesome. I will provide a link to his homily when it comes available.
Father said ``What matters to God is you. You are more valuable to God than Notre Dame Cathedral. You are an eternal being. The reason for your great value is the redemption that has been wrought for you in the resurrection of Jesus Christ. Jesus Christ is risen! Our hope dawns in the resurrection.

You can listen to Father Rob`s homily at this link
https://companionscross.org/homilies/fr-rob-arsenault-cc/easter-your-value

Father told us about Padre Pro and his brother Humberto who were executed by a firing squad in Mexico  in 1927. President Calles had news photographers present, expecting the Pros to die cowardly. But Padre Pro refused the blindfold and welcomed the bullets with his arms extended in the form of a cross, crying out, “Viva Cristo Rey!” Although Calles outlawed any public demonstration, thousands of Mexicans defiantly lined the streets, honoring the martyr as he was carried in procession to his grave.

Ducks In A Row

Pat and I volunteer at  Laurier Manor most Wednesday mornings This is a Long Term Care Facility located in the East End of Ottawa.

We usually spend time visiting a few of the Residents although occasionally we help the Activities Directors in different ways. Today Kate from the fifth floor asked me if I would help her and some of the Residents create these cute little Easter ducks. Kate is so talented and the Residents absolutely loved making these adorable mommies and babies: cutting, pasting etc.

They are always in need of volunteers so if you think you would like to spend an hour or 2 each week Click Here

Corner of Bank and Queen yesterday

Father Tony Van Hee S.J can be seen most weekdays at the corner of Bank and Queen right outside the Bubble Zone. He is quietly protesting the lack of Freedom of Speech in Ottawa. Father balances himself on his one legged stool for up to 6 hours each day while fasting and praying.

He prays that democracy will survive; he prays for the city of Ottawa police officers who ticketed him; he prays for his lawyer Albertos and he prays for Mayor Jim Watson.

Yesterday Lois and I joined Father Tony around 12:30 and chatted with him before praying the rosary and Divine Mercy Chaplet. Carole who works in the vicinity stopped by to see Father Tony during her lunch break offering her support

Please pray for Father Van Hee; pray that freedom of speech will be respected in our country; and if you have the means support his legal case in a financial way.

Here  is a link to Patricia Maloney's blog site where up to date information is periodically added.

Thank you and God bless you!

Annunciation of the Lord - Parish Feast Day- March 25, 2019

I have heard it said that the Feast of the Annunciation is greater than any other.
This evening we had a beautiful Mass celebrated by Fr. John Likozar. Fr. Rob Arsenault and Fr. Dennis Hayes and assisted by Deacon Marc Gauthier and Deacon Will Read. Father Rob's homily was awesome and the music provided by Janet Warren was wonderful. I will provide a link to Father Rob's homily when it is on the Parish website.
