40 Days for Life Fall Campaign, 2026, Ottawa, Ontario, Canada - Praying for and end to abortion and Euthanasia

The 40 Days for Life campaign, to pray and fast for an end to abortion, will be taking place in Ottawa this year, starting on Wednesday, September 23 and ending on Sunday, November 1, 2026.

The Opening Rally, to kick off the campaign, will take place on Sunday, September 20, from 6 to 7 pm. More details will be following later. Mark your calendar with the date.

After I had a stroke last year, I had to step back as the leader of Ottawa 40 Days for Life. I still wanted to be part of the campaign, so I was assigned to help at the Closing Rally reception. I’m coming along – thanks to the many prayers that have been said for me – and I’ve taken on a few jobs this year that I can do from home. I’m not yet up to the challenge of driving outside my community into Ottawa and I can’t stand for very long, but I can help from home. One of the jobs I’ll be doing is communication to everyone through regular updates by email.

The 40 Days for Life campaign must be covered in prayer and a good way to start is with a 40-day novena to Saint Michael from August 20 to the feast day of the archangels: Michael, Gabriel, and Raphael, on September 29. Please join me in praying this novena:

“Saint Michael the Archangel, defend us in battle. Be our defence against the wickedness and snares of the devil. May God rebuke him, we humbly pray, and do thou, O Prince of the heavenly hosts, by the power of God, thrust into hell, Satan and all evil spirits, who prowl about the world seeking the ruin of souls. Amen”

Yours for Life,

In Ottawa we have been participating in this campaign since the Fall 2009
2008 Diary of Ground Zero- 2008 Fall 2009   I kept a record of the comments of participants

On one of the days when I went Father Simon Lobo was there along with a few of the Sisters of the Queenship of Mary

Ground Zero Report - Day 10 (Part 3) - [10.03]

I arrived around 1:00 on Friday October 3 and stayed for a little over two and a half hours. During that time I prayed of course for an end to abortion in general but my heart went out to a young couple who I saw rush into the lobby of 65 Bank street while ignoring the counselor who kindly tried to give the young woman a pamphlet. I felt such a heavy heart knowing what was most probably taking place during the next two hours.

As I prayed I glanced up at the third floor and wondered where she was. Was she going through with the abortion? Maybe she would change her mind. I hoped and I prayed. I thought of the little baby whose life was about to be ended and prayed for her angel to take her to heaven and that she wouldn't feel any pain.

When they left the abortuary about 2 hours later, the young woman was very pale. They walked slowly to the MacDonald's restaurant next door and it all seemed surreal.

I have so much difficulty comprehending this ugliness that is taking place in our city. Just a short walk from Parliament Hill and amidst the hustle and bustle of the downtown tourist area, is a place where women go to have their babies killed.

There were about 8 others praying during that time. Among them were two very humble and kind sisters Teresa and Sara, from the Religious Order the Queenship of Mary and Simon Lobo a Deacon with the Companions of the Cross. Simon is currently at Saint Maurice Parish and will be ordained in May 2009. He gathered us all together for a blessing before he left the site and for this we were all truly grateful. He asked God to bestow His blessing on all of us and for all those in the place across the street . He prayed for the little souls who would die that day and for all those hurt by abortion and asked God to be with them and be merciful. I truly felt Mary and her Son's presence amidst the sorrow. Please pray for Teresa, Sara and Simon. Their presence was a Grace from God. And please never stop praying for an end to abortion. (Source) - Maureen

The Chaplet of Saint Michael the Archangel / From the Marian Devotional Movement

The Chaplet of St. Michael the Archangel

The Chaplet of St. Michael is a wonderful way to honor this great Archangel along with the other nine Choirs of Angels. What do we mean by Choirs? It seems that God has created various orders of Angels. Sacred Scripture distinguishes nine such groupings: Seraphim, Cherubim, Thrones, Dominations, Powers, Virtues, Principalities, Archangels and Angels (Isa. 6: 2; Gen. 3: 24; Col. 1: 16; Eph. 1: 21; Rom. 8: 38). There may be more groupings but these are the only ones that have been revealed to us. The Seraphim is believed to be the highest Choir, the most intimately united to God, while the Angelic Choir is the lowest.

The history of this Chaplet goes back to a devout Servant of God, Antonia d'Astonac, who had a vision of St. Michael. He told Antonia to honor him by nine salutations to the nine Choirs of Angels. St. Michael promised that whoever would practice this devotion in his honor would have, when approaching Holy Communion, an escort of nine angels chosen from each of the nine Choirs. In addition, for those who would recite the Chaplet daily, he promised his continual assistance and that of all the holy angels during life, and after death deliverance from purgatory for themselves and their relations.

The Chaplet of St. Michael

O God, come to my assistance. O Lord, make haste to help me. Glory be to the father, etc.

Opening Prayer

O Mighty Prince of the Heavenly Host Saint Michael, we beg you to protect and defend us in all struggles against the everyday temptations in this world, help us to overcome all evils and strengthen us that we may declare our faith in loyalty to the most High, so that together with all the angels and saints in heaven we may glorify the Lord. Saint Michael, please intercede for us together with the Blessed Virgin Mary and obtain for us all the intentions on our chaplet. Present to God the Father all these petitions, through Jesus Christ our Lord together with the Holy Spirit, forever and ever, Amen

[Say one Our Father and three Hail Marys after each of the following nine salutations in honor of the nine Choirs of Angels]

1. By the intercession of St. Michael and the celestial Choir of Seraphim may the Lord make us worthy to burn with the fire of perfect charity.
Amen.

2. By the intercession of St. Michael and the celestial Choir of Cherubim may the Lord grant us the grace to leave the ways of sin and run in the paths of Christian perfection.
Amen.

3. By the intercession of St. Michael and the celestial Choir of Thrones may the Lord infuse into our hearts a true and sincere spirit of humility.
Amen.

4. By the intercession of St. Michael and the celestial Choir of Dominations may the Lord give us grace to govern our senses and overcome any unruly passions.
Amen.

5. By the intercession of St. Michael and the celestial Choir of Virtues may the Lord preserve us from evil and falling into temptation.
Amen.

6. By the intercession of St. Michael and the celestial Choir of Powers may the Lord protect our souls against the snares and temptations of the devil.
Amen.

7. By the intercession of St. Michael and the celestial Choir of Principalities may God fill our souls with a true spirit of obedience.
Amen.

8. By the intercession of St. Michael and the celestial Choir of Archangels may the Lord give us perseverance in faith and in all good works in order that we may attain the glory of Heaven.
Amen.

9. By the intercession of St. Michael and the celestial Choir of Angels may the Lord grant us to be protected by them in this mortal life and conducted in the life to come to Heaven.
Amen.

Say one Our Father in honor of each of the following leading Angels: St. Michael, St. Gabriel, St. Raphael and our Guardian Angel.

Concluding prayers:

O glorious prince St. Michael, chief and commander of the heavenly hosts, guardian of souls, vanquisher of rebel spirits, servant in the house of the Divine King and our admirable conductor, you who shine with excellence and superhuman virtue deliver us from all evil, who turn to you with confidence and enable us by your gracious protection to serve God more and more faithfully every day.

Pray for us, O glorious St. Michael, Prince of the Church of Jesus Christ, that we may be made worthy of His promises.

Almighty and Everlasting God, Who, by a prodigy of goodness and a merciful desire for the salvation of all men, has appointed the most glorious Archangel St. Michael Prince of Your Church, make us worthy, we ask You, to be delivered from all our enemies, that none of them may harass us at the hour of death, but that we may be conducted by him into Your Presence. This we ask through the merits of Jesus Christ Our Lord.
Amen.
