A little sidebar here I thought I would slip this short hymn to Mary sung by Fr. Lawrence Hygenus. He sang this when we were at the Shrine of Our Lady of Czestochowa. It came to mind when I heard Fr. Kevin's homily today and he mentioned that there is a link between this special day dedicated to Mary and Our Lady of Czestochowa ( I have to look that up )

The PIlgrimage Continues

Santiago de Compostela

Prayer Intentions

Photos Below
"The lone pilgrim was from the Czech Republic.
Grazyna, myself, and Michel posing with Slovenia bikers.
The man next to me was 89.
I think they took two weeks to do the El Camino.
The man and woman are from Italy.
The group with their back to us will forever remain unknown." Pat

"Our tour guide Estefania told us about these Benedictine nuns who bake and sell their famous almond cookies.
However, we were having trouble finding a slot where we could purchase the cookies. Then we saw a priest and asked him. He showed us where they were. His name was Fr Uxio from Spain and he was studying in Rome for his PhD in philosophy. We asked for his blessing and he gave it. Then he asked us to pray for him.

Please, dear God, we pray that 🙏 Fr Uxio will pass his PhD exams
in three months' time as he hoped. "Pat

Pilgrims

I love the shadows cast by the setting sun!

The Heavens declare the Glory of God!

"Pictures from our hotel and as we waited for Mass
in the chapel on the hotel grounds" Pat

Fr John said this in his homily. Apparently, it is a well-known saying but I had never heard it before.
“The devil knows your name, but he calls you by your sin. The Lord knows your sin, but he calls you by your name. I thought this was a really good reminder for all of us, just how much God loves us." Pat

"Last but not least: The Cookies. Everyone enjoyed them. Courtesy Joanne, Michel, Grazyna, and myself. Oh, and of course the Benedictine nuns from Santiago de Compostela.
Each cookie was attached to a very thin wafer. I wonder if the sisters make the unleavened bread for Holy Communion?" Pat

Second night at this really nice hotel, I guess tomorrow
They will be up early and heading out to Burgos.
Pat's always up early so she has it in the bag.😊

Fatima - Braga - Santiago De Compostela, Spain

Leaving Fatima

Yesterday Pat left all of the prayer intentions

that everyone gave her at the shrine of Fatima.

She will do it again at Lourdes and possibly other shrines as well

To God be Glory forever

from Pat below

" This morning I walked to the shrine.
There was an English Mass being said as I arrived at the consecration. What a blessing.
I would have received communion except I had already eaten a banana. Too bad.
On the bus now. I lead the Rosary. Another blessing.
A beautiful picture of the Holy Family was displayed in one of the shops.
St Lucia, St. Jacinta, and St. Francisco pray for us." Pat

Journey North and stopping in Braga, one of the oldest Christian cities in the world Sanctuary of Bom Jesu de Monte, UNESCO World Heritage Site
and Pilgrim Destination where devout followers have walked the Stations of the Cross for contemplation and penance since 1981

Fr. John Likozar, Pat Maloney,Grazyna Taracha
( I noticed during our pilgrimage to Poland that the Companions 😇 are good at taking selfies )

Continuing  to Spain to Santiago de Compostela one of the most significant pilgrimage destinations since the middle ages

Burial place of Saint James

  • The pilgrimage route to Compostelais is graced with an exceptional witness from its early days: the Liber Sancti Jacobi or Book of Saint James. This book is found most famously in a twelfth-century manuscript from the library of the Cathedral of Santiago de Compostela, as well as in various other manuscripts.

Day 6 - Tuesday, September 12th, 2023

Pat on her early morning walk
"Our hotel at Santiago de Compostela is pretty luxurious. The homes on this narrow road adjacent to the hotel have either high fences or hedges and locked gates. Nice and quiet in the early morning." Pat

This is the end of part three of the PIlgrimage
