Teenaged Girls in Progressive America - The Catholic Thing

 https://www.thecatholicthing.org/2023/06/23/teenaged-girls-in-progressive-america/

t’s not easy to be a teenage girl.  Nor is it easy to be a teenage boy.  The years-long passage from the shore of childhood to the opposite shore of adulthood can be a rocky passage.  Very rocky indeed.  As many of us remember.

A generation ago, tens of thousands of young girls (probably more) were troubled by anorexia or near-anorexia.  Thin girls developed the weird idea that they were significantly overweight.  And so they reduced their consumption of food.  In extreme cases, ultra-skinny girls tried to stop eating altogether.  Many began to look like prisoners at Auschwitz.  They were on the verge of death by starvation.

Today great numbers of teenage girls are being tormented by a newly fashionable idea, the idea of transgenderism, the crazy idea that, despite the fact that they have female bodies, they are, in truth, not girls but boys.  Somehow, they happened to get born into the wrong body.  This misfortune having taken place, it’s now imperative, they believe, that they be allowed to transition from female to male.

And they believe that adults around them – especially their parents, teachers, and doctors – have a duty to help them make this transition.  Help them, for instance, by treating them with “gender-affirming care” – male hormones, puberty blockers, or bodily mutilation, i.e., surgical amputation of their emerging breasts.

If the adults refuse to help, it must be – they’ve also been convinced – from “hate.”  Not only do these girls feel that they’re in the wrong body; they also feel that the adults who should most protect them are their great enemies.  How horrible it all is!  Many of these pitiable/crazy girls threaten suicide, and more than a few attempt it.

Boys, too, are trapped and tormented by this transgender lunacy.  But my guess is that the problem is far more common on average for girls.

Psychologically speaking, there’s a great similarity between the old anorexia craze and the new transgender craze.  That may give us reason to be optimistic.  The old lunacy faded away, so may the new lunacy.

But there’s a gigantic difference between the two lunacies.  In the old days, nobody affirmed the afflicted girls in their anorexia.  Nobody said to a girl who was as thin as a toothpick, “Oh dear me!  You are so fat!  How disgusting!  Don’t eat breakfast.  And if they force you to eat, try to throw up as soon as you’re finished.”

Nowadays, however, nearly half the nation affirms these poor girls in their lunacy, the “progressive” half, the ideological half that approves of and promotes the LGBTQIA+ agenda.  These are the same people who strongly approve of other odd things: e.g., abortion, same-sex marriage, open borders, atheism, and the idea that most white Americans are anti-black racists – and anti-brown racists to boot.  Transgenderism is part of that “progressive” package.

It’s these progressives who dominate America’s great organs of moral propaganda –journalism (print and electronic), the entertainment industry (TV, movies, popular music), higher education, public schools (many expensive private schools too), the pulpits of “liberal” religions, and the Democratic Party (my former party).

President Biden, our fellow Catholic, is the commander-in-chief not only of the armed forces, but of the progressive powerhouse.

The Catholic Church in the United States is not (at least not yet) a “liberal” religion.  But it’s halfway down that road.  To date (unlike truly liberal Protestant churches), it refuses to endorse the progressive agenda (except perhaps open borders), but it’s reluctant to condemn it.

Our bishops, with a few honorable exceptions, remind one of the bishops of King Henry VIII’s day.  Except for one (John Fisher of Rochester), they sat by timidly as the king closed the monasteries and de-papalized the Church.  By and large, our Catholic bishops do little to defend the Church against its progressive enemy.  Especially noteworthy is the silence, and sometimes muted progressivism, of the cardinals appointed by Pope Francis: Tobin of Newark, Cupich of Chicago, Gregory of D.C., and McElroy of San Diego.

And so here are these poor girls, in great daily pain because of their crazy belief that they are not girls at all, but boys.  And the most authoritative voices of American society, the voices of our cultural elites, instead of saying to these girls what was said to the anorexic girls of a generation ago, “You are mistaken.  You are suffering from a delusion.  Let us help you” – instead of saying this, our progressive elites say, “Many people are born into the wrong bodies.  You may well be one of them.  Let us help you with gender-affirming care.  Let us, for instance, provide you with a surgeon who will remove your breasts.”

For many years I have believed that the ultimate aim of present-day progressivism is the ruination of Christianity, Catholicism in particular.  Transgenderism goes a step beyond that.  Underlying Christianity are two fundamental beliefs expressed in the first article of the Nicene Creed: (a) the belief that God exists, and (b) the belief that God created an intelligible world that can be understood, at least in part, by the human mind.

The transgender ideology is an attack on the idea that the world is intelligible.  Instead, the ideology is an affirmation of the opposite idea, namely that the world has no objective existence.  Instead, things are what we SAY they are.  If we say that a girl is a boy, then she’s a boy.  And if we say that an unborn baby is not human, then it’s not human; and if we say that same-sex marriage is perfectly natural, then it’s perfectly natural.  Reality is what WE think it is, not what God thinks it is.

We haven’t yet reached the point at which progressives say, “2 plus 2 equals something other than 4.”  And some pushback to the trans craze has begun over the mutilation of children. But we’re close, and without strong leadership by the Church and other institutions, that’s where we’re headed.

The Ottawa Catholic School Board is loosing touch with Reality

Here are a few of my thoughts - Maureen

To begin with, when our young people struggle with same-sex attraction, we the parents and grandparents and teachers and doctors and clergy and friends,,,,  must be there to help them navigate this with a Christian perspective. They need loving parents and teachers and real help be it, emotional, psychological, spiritual etc...Not the so-called help from those who are promoting this radical anti-Christian agenda. They need the truth!

You (the Ottawa Catholic School Board ) wonder why parents and grandparents of different Faiths are upset? Well here's the thing, The LGBTQ+ acronym has been hijacked by Trans Activists who blatantly and unceasingly mock women, mock Christians, and mock Jesus our Lord and Saviour (it's more than that it's a sacrilege)

Men dressing as women although more like creepy distortions of women is pretty insulting you know. And drag shows for kids in libraries and schools?. Half-naked men performing obscene acts in front of children? And you're ok with this? Really?

LGBTQ+ acronym stands for "You must support hormones and puberty blockers and the surgical mutilations of Children as young as 5 years of age even." If not then you are transphobic"  You are guilty of hate speech. You might even be labeled as a Nazi. Did you know that Sweden which I would say is one of the most liberal countries in the world and the first to push this agenda is now putting a halt to much of it. And there are more countries starting to do the same,

Girls are often uncomfortable with boys using their washrooms in schools and rightly so but if a fellow male student brings this concern on behalf of one of the girls to the principal then guess what? He's expelled. You know the rest.

Let's see if there's more hmm!

Oh yes, there is the issue of men now competing in women's sports. It seems as if society is regressing in the way women are treated! I am going to say more about that later but for now, check this out

Oh here's a good one, if you dare to say there are two genders male and female (a fact, ) you better be prepared for the vicious attacks coming your way not just on social media but by Universities, our elected political leaders be they National, Provincial or Municipal........ the list is endless.

Truth is now hate speech

In the last three or four years has there been such an upswing of girls wanting to be boys and boys wanting to be girls? Why are Catholic teachers enabling all this???

Gender dysphoria is also a growing problem in the United Kingdom.
In the UK, young people referred for "gender treatment" has increased from 97 in 2009 to 2,510 in 2017-2018, an over 4,000 percent increase in 10 years.

And this obsession with pronouns????? Really?

Are we paying attention?

Dr. Jordan B. Peterson and twelve-time All-American female swimmer Riley Gaines discuss the insemination of men into women's spaces. Gaines breaks down the breach in security that women face when forced to share vulnerable spaces with biological men, the purpose of athletic achievement, why segregation of the sexes has genuine merit, and what exactly went down at San Francisco State University.

Riley Gaines is an American athlete and female rights activist. Gaines is a graduate of the University of Kentucky, where she was a twelve-time All-American swimmer. She competed and tied with trans-identifying swimmer Lia Thomas at their NCAA championships and was unfairly sidelined from the awards ceremony. She has spoken to numerous teammates and administrators who do not think this attack on female sports is fair, and more importantly, do not feel this invasion by men into female spaces is remotely safe. Gaines has become an outspoken female rights activist, advocating for the protection of women's spaces, sports, and achievements, and has proven herself unshakable even when faced with a dangerous mob.

Anti Catholic Hate - LA Dodgers Embarrassed with EMPTY Stadium for Pride Night

These performers who mock women and Christians are an insult to everybody who truly suffers from gender confusion. They should be banned from every place where children are present and that would include a baseball stadium. Anyone who doesn't capitulate to these scam artists is basically thrown under the bus

A few random thoughts of this event and similar ones

Men who dress up like women while at the same time ridiculing them are the latest trend. They look like something out of your worst nightmares. The in-your-face mockery of Jesus at the Dodger's game on June 16th the Feast of the Sacred Heart of Jesus and those who have devoted their lives to following Him is about as evil as I have ever seen. That being said, reports on this blatant persecution of Catholics by the Legacy media are nonexistent.

This is the same ideology that supports the sexual abuse of our children. Walking around naked in public places such as family swimming pools, washrooms, and locker rooms mocking women, and performing lewd acts in front of children under the pretense of story hours for kids in libraries. Are you kidding me??

In the name of "inclusion" they have managed to slither their way into women's prisons, and women's sports but if you say anything it is "hate speech" A couple of examples below.

incidents like this are the norm now

Is the whole world asleep at the switch?

Sexually Explicit Books for kindergarten children? puberty blockers. ( Surgical mutilation of children by lopping off their breasts and penises in the name of acceptance ) The list is endless. The list is endless.

Everyone knows that going through puberty is difficult for adolescents. My gosh, I remember feeling ugly and self-conscience. I liked climbing trees and doing somewhat crazy things. We used to call girls who liked to climb trees tomboys. In this insane time that we are living in girls are told they can be a boy and a boy can be a girl if they choose. The world of adults, instead of navigating this crucial time in a child's development feeds them a bunch of hogwash thoroughly confusing this generation of children.

What our precious children need during this crucial time is a loving family a trustworthy psychologist and the truth. But instead, these kids are getting hoodwinked with "woke" teachers and "woke doctors" and woke politics. "woke tik tok" In short our kids have been taken over by the "System" and in many cases, parental rights have been squashed

Oh and if you quietly and lovingly protest any of this you are yelled and screamed at with an endless stream of obscenities and spit, you are transphobic or homophobic or a Nazi, or white supremacist  ( or all of them ) . and not just that but an effin transphobe or homophobe or Nazi or white supremacist.  You could end up in the hospital like Chris Elston. His crime? Attempting to warn people of the dangers of hormones and puberty blockers And all the time the cops are standing by grinning. Same with Josh Alexander. For defending female students in his "Catholic" School, well you know what happened  It's a hate crime and an indictable offense now to try to protect vulnerable people

Yup!

For the sake of our children!

FYI

Leor Sapir He makes a point ( although I don't see eye to eye on all his ideas but this acronym is blatant. Like the Trans delusion getting their hooks into the "gay rights" issue. That's why most gays and lesbians distance themselves from this ridiculous "Trans" craziness

“LGBTQIA+.” The sole purpose of this acronym is to enable activists making radical claims about human nature and society to piggyback off the far more broadly accepted claims of gay rights.

American activists distort the situation in European countries to defend an aggressive approach to pediatric gender medicine.

CANADIAN GENDER REPORT

A group of parents and professionals is concerned about the medical transition of children, the introduction of gender identity teaching in our schools, and the changing legal landscape that replaces biological sex with the subjective notion of gender self-identity.

They say that more open discussion is needed on these issues. We are not influenced by religious or political affiliations and would rather focus on objective research and evidence on the topic of gender transition for children and young people.

Gay and transgender drag performers who mock the Catholic faith to be honored by The Los Angeles Dodgers on the Feast of the Sacred Heart

 https://www.catholicnewsagency.com/author/763/peter-pinedo

The Los Angeles Dodgers are giving an award to a group of gay and transgender drag performers who mock the Catholic faith.

By Peter Pinedo

Washington D.C., Jun 9, 2023 / 13:38 pm

Prominent Catholics and other Christians, including baseball players and bishops, continue to denounce the Los Angeles Dodgers’ decision to honor an anti-Catholic drag group called the “Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence” at a game on June 16.

The Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence are a national drag queen group that impersonates nuns and uses Catholic religious imagery and themes in protests and sexualized performances to raise awareness and money for LGBTQ+ causes. The performers call themselves nuns and regularly use the images of Jesus, the Virgin Mary, and women religious.

The Dodgers will be honoring the L.A. chapter of the Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence with a “Community Hero Award” before a game against the San Francisco Giants.

Here is what some of the country’s leading bishops are saying about the decision.

Cardinal Timothy Dolan, New York City

Cardinal Timothy Dolan, archbishop of New York, blasted the Dodgers’ decision to honor the drag group in an episode of his talk show “The Good Newsroom” on June 2.

Dolan pointed out that beloved former Dodgers who were devoutly religious such as Sandy Koufax, Tommy Lasorda, and Vin Scully would be outraged today.

“Sandy Koufax, a great Dodger, there was a guy that loved religion so much he wouldn’t pitch on Yom Kippur,” Dolan said. “Now the Dodgers … are honoring this viciously anti-Catholic group.”

“We here in New York are well aware of them,” Dolan said of the Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence. “These are the ones that spit on Cardinal John O’Connor, these are the ones that threatened to desecrate the holy Eucharist, these are the ones who exposed themselves in front of St. Patrick’s Cathedral. We’re well aware of their antics. This isn’t some benevolent, humorous group.”

“You shouldn’t do this to any group,” Dolan added. “Why is the only group that they feel free to attack Catholics?”

Archbishop Jose Gomez, Los Angeles

Archbishop Jose Gomez of Los Angeles, the archbishop of the city in which the anti-Catholic group is being honored, called on Catholics and people of goodwill to “stand against hate in any form” in a May 23 tweet.

“The decision to honor a group that clearly mocks the Catholic faith and makes light of the sincere and holy vocations of our women religious who are an integral part of our Church is what has caused disappointment, concern, anger, and dismay from our Catholic community,” the archdiocesan statement said.

Archbishop Salvatore Cordileone, San Francisco

Archbishop Salvatore Cordileone of San Francisco, the city whose team the Dodgers will compete against on June 16, stated that “we now know what gods the Dodger admin worships.”

“Our Catholic sisters devote themselves to serving others selflessly. Decent people would not mock & blaspheme them,” Cordileone said in a tweet on May 23. “So we now know what gods the Dodger admin worships. Open desecration & anti-Catholicism is not disqualifying. Disappointing but not surprising. Gird your loins.”

Archbishop Joseph Naumann, Kansas City

Archbishop Joseph Naumann of Kansas City, Kansas, called on the Kansas City Royals’ ownership to “communicate their disapproval to the Dodgers’ management for their actions that show disrespect for the Catholic faith,” in a May 31 statement.

Naumann also called on Major League Baseball to “not allow baseball to be used to advance ideologies that are offensive to many of their customers” so that fans could enjoy games “without having to be subjected to blasphemy and the mockery of the deeply held religious beliefs of many of its players and fans.”

“I am appalled and disgusted by the Dodgers honoring a group that calls themselves the Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence,” Naumann added. “This group openly mocks Catholic beliefs, and their actions are nothing less than blasphemous.”

Naumann pointed out that former Dodgers manager Tommy Lasorda was a supporter of women religious.

Bottom of Form

“When Tommy was managing the Dodgers,” Naumann said, “he would always give some of his complimentary tickets to Catholic religious sisters. The real heroines for the care of HIV-positive patients are groups like Mother Teresa’s Missionaries of Charity, who operated AIDS hospice care facilities.”

“Tommy Lasorda would be appalled by the Dodgers’ actions,” Naumann said.

Archbishop Paul Coakley, Oklahoma City

“There are more than 4 million Catholics in Los Angeles,” Archbishop Paul Coakley of Oklahoma City said in a June 2 tweet. “The decision by the Dodgers to invite a group that seeks to openly disparage them and the millions of Catholics around the world is abhorrent and should be rescinded.”

“This group specifically mocks the witness of religious sisters around the world who dedicate their lives to serving the poor and those in need,” Coakley added. “Would they allow mockery of other faiths — our Jewish or Muslim brothers and sisters? Of course not.”

Coakley also shared that during this month of the Sacred Heart, he would be praying for “the conversion of hearts” and called on Catholics and people of goodwill to join him in condemning “the vile mockery of any faith.”

Bishop Kevin Vann, Orange, California

Bishop Kevin Vann of the Diocese of Orange, California, released a statement on May 22 condemning the Anaheim mayor’s decision to honor the Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence at a June 7 Anaheim Angels game.

“The decision to openly embrace a group whose demeaning behavior is anti-Catholic and anti-Christian is misguided and disrespectful to the sisters of the Catholic Church who minister in Orange County and selflessly dedicate their lives to God’s underserved people,” the diocesan statement said.

In a later tweet on June 7 the diocese said the mayor’s decision was “deeply offensive and divisive” and that “embracing this group provokes division in our community instead of fostering a unifying spirit.”

Bishop Robert Barron, Winona-Rochester, Minnesota

Bishop Robert Barron of Winona-Rochester called for a boycott against the Dodgers in a video he tweeted on May 25.

“Anti-Catholicism is the last acceptable prejudice in America, and we shouldn’t tolerate it,” Barron said in a tweet. “I’m a big baseball fan. I’ve even thrown out the first pitch at a Dodgers game. But I’d encourage my friends in L.A. to boycott the Dodgers. Let’s not just pray but make our voices heard in defense of our Catholic faith.”

Bishop Michael Burbidge, Arlington, Virginia

“This is totally unacceptable and it’s so sad,” Bishop Michael Burbidge of the Diocese of Arlington, Virginia, said in a June 5 episode of his “Walk Humbly Podcast.”

“This is not going to change until we stop supporting organizations like that. So, if I was a Dodgers season ticket holder I’d cancel my season tickets,” Burbidge added. “We have to be a strong voice and we cannot back down to this kind of discrimination.”

“They mock the Catholic faith, and why is it, it seems, that the only ones that can be subjected to this kind of public mockery and agitation and discrimination are Christians? It’s not tolerated with any other group,” Burbidge pointed out. “It’s deeply, deeply concerning.”

“I’m a baseball fan and I just hate seeing this kind of division coming into sports because sports is supposed to be a time when you can bring your family, you can relax, you can enjoy the game, you’re not dealing with all this political agenda,” Burbidge said.

Bishop James Conley, Lincoln, Nebraska

In a June 1 tweet, Nebraska’s Bishop James Conley said that the Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence group “is slanderous toward our religious sisters and all women.”

The Dodgers’ decision to honor a group “that mocks Catholicism and all of Christianity,” Conley said, “is unwise and disappointing.”

“The Dodgers and MLB need to correct this decision,” Conley concluded.

Bishop Donald Hying, Madison, Wisconsin

In a May 26 tweet, Bishop Donald Hying of the Diocese of Madison, Wisconsin, said: “Let’s call this out for what it is: anti-Catholic bigotry and blasphemy against God.”

Bishop Joseph Strickland, Tyler, Texas

Bishop Joseph Strickland of the Diocese of Tyler, Texas, urged his followers to “please speak against this evil being promoted at Dodger Stadium,” in a May 24 tweet.

Strickland will be leading a “prayerful procession” at Dodger Stadium the day of the game, June 16, according a June 5 report by LifeSite News. The event is being organized by a group called “Catholics for Catholics.”

In another tweet on May 30, Strickland said: “Target, Kohl’s, Dodgers, the list grows. As for me and my house we will serve & honor Our Lord Jesus Christ, the Son of God and oppose any group that denigrates His Sacred Name and Truth.”
