40 Days for Life Ottawa Fall 2022

This year’s 40 Days for Life campaign came to a close earlier this month, on the first Sunday of November. We know that not all of the 480 hours were covered, but I’m trusting that the Lord had people praying at the vigil site, and privately, at the times when it was needed. He is concerned about the lives of the littles ones more than we could possibly be.

The Closing Rally was well attended with about 70 people taking part. We were fortunate to

have Archbishop Marcel Damphousse attend, lead us in prayer and give us his blessing.

Helena, our church and ministry coordinator, gave a very thorough and interesting run down

of the overall participation. To date, since September 28, 2022, it’s reported that 310 moms

changed their minds and let their pregnancies go full term to deliver their babies.

Deacon Charles Fink gave us an update on Father Anthony Van Hee’s criminal charges.

Father Van Hee was charged with violating the province’s Safe Access to Abortion Services Act

on October 24, 2018. In case you haven’t heard, the charges have recently been withdrawn.

If you would like a copy of Deacon Chuck’s talk, let me know.

Our guest speaker was psychotherapist, Karine Langley PhD, RP. Her talk was focused on the

pro-choice rant, “my body, my choice” and she relayed her experience on how abortion impacts

women and men in multiple ways, physically, psychologically, emotionally and spiritually.

My husband, for one, was amazed at the long-term repercussions that abortion leaves.

In a previous email, I sent out a link to a video called, The Procedure, produced by Choice42.

Director of Choice42, Laura Klassen is interviewed on the Faytene Show to talk about her

pro-life work and explain the making of the video.

Marg Mountain does a weekly picket at the Ottawa Hospital’s Civic Campus and she would

welcome more participants. Here’s a short outline of this ministry.

In the silence…… are you being called?

Every Sunday from 2:00 pm to 3:00 pm, since 1983 people have been walking in

front of the Civic hospital with signs saying ‘Adoption not Abortion’

and ‘Abortion kills Babies’. The sole purpose of this totally legal witness is to remind

others that abortion is never the solution. It is not to make those who have had abortions

feel guilty but rather to change hearts and minds so others might rethink the decision

to kill their unborn child. We know that over the years at least two babies have been

saved from abortion because of their mothers’ reading our signs.

Some of those walking, do so in prayerful silence, some chat with friends and others

listen to podcasts on cell phones. This witness allows you to meet like-minded people,

allows you an hour of fresh air and exercise and best of all, the satisfaction

that you are doing something for God's littlest ones.

We invite you to join us any Sunday from two to three at the Civic campus of the

Ottawa hospital on Carling Ave. Listen carefully …. are you being called?

Marg 613 293 0799

Marg would be glad to hear from you if you want to take part in this weekly hour of prayer.

May the Lord bless you and keep you in His loving care. Thank you for being a prayer warrior for the Culture of Life.

Yours for Life,

Wanda

The Notre Dame D'Afrique (Our Lady of Africa) vandalized in Vanier

 https://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/ottawa/ottawa-our-lady-of-africa-statue-vandalized-1.6651947

The face and hands on a statue of the Black Virgin Mary in Vanier have been painted white in what the city says is an unauthorized act of vandalism.

What the heck do they mean by "unauthored act of vandalism" Are some acts of vandalism authorized

It was first erected in 1955 by the Society of Missionaries of Africa, which used to own the land the park now sits on, according to Vanier Museopark. The priests were known as the White Fathers and chose the Virgin Mary as their patron saint in 1938.

Our Lady of Africa Pray, for us!

Near the Cross with Mary - Bishop Scott McCaig

Bishop Scott's inspiration comes from Saint Teresa of Calcutta who found herself next to the Cross and by Our Lady's side, in an apparition in 1947. As a result of this event, she often exhorted "With great love and trust, stand with Our Lady near the Cross. What a gift of God!" Saint Teresa's promise that
"if we stand with Our Lady, she will give us her spirit of loving trust, total surrender, and cheerfulness."

From a letter written on the day of her death –

1. “Loving trust and total surrender made Our Lady say ‘yes’ to the message of the angel. And cheerfulness made her run in haste to serve her cousin Elizabeth. That is so much our life: saying ‘yes’ to Jesus and running in haste to serve him in the poorest of the poor. Let us keep very close to Our Lady and she will make that same spirit grow in each of us.”

2. “Pray especially to Our Blessed Mother Mary, placing all your intentions into her hands. For she loves you as she loves her Son. She will guide you in all your relationships so that peace may fill your life.”

3. “Let us ask Our Lady, in a very special way: Mary, mother of Jesus, be a mother to each of us, that we, like you, may be pure in heart, that we, like you, love Jesus; that we, like you, serve the poorest for we are all poor. First, let us love our neighbors and so fulfill God’s desire that we become carriers of his love and compassion.”

4. “Mary is our mother, the cause of our joy. Being a mother, I have never had difficulty in talking with Mary and feeling close to her.”

A few other Words from Mother Teresa on Mary

5... She never feared to proclaim Jesus her son. At Calvary we see her standing upright – the mother of God, standing next to the cross. What a deep faith she must have had because of her love for her son! To see him dishonored, unloved, an object of hatred. Yet, she stayed upright.”

6 “How much we need Mary to teach us what it means to satiate God’s Thirsting Love for us, which Jesus came to reveal to us. She did it so beautifully. Yes, Mary allowed God to take possession of her life by her purity, her humility, and her faithful love…Let us seek to grow, under the guidance of our Heavenly Mother…”

7 “If we stand with Our Lady, she will give us her spirit of loving trust, total surrender, and

 cheerfulness.

My brother Jimmy painted this beautiful image of Mother Teresa years ago
when he was living in Toronto. He met Mother Teresa as she was getting out of a taxi I believe and their eyes locked. I can't remember the exact circumstances... She might have dropped something and he picked it up: not sure but I believe their encounter was the inspiration for the painting which he gave to me. I was so excited!!!

Prayer Walter - Father Walter Ciszek S.J.from "He Leadeth Me"

“And I learned soon enough that prayer does not take away bodily pain or mental anguish. Nevertheless, it does provide a certain moral strength to bear the burden patiently. Certainly, it was prayer that helped me through every crisis.

Gradually, too, I learned to purify my prayer and remove from it the elements of self-seeking. I learned to pray for my interrogators, not so they would see things my way or come to the truth so that my ordeal would end, but because they, too, were children of God and human beings in need of his blessing and his daily grace. I learned to stop asking for more bread for myself, and instead to offer up my sufferings, the pains of hunger that I felt, for the many others in the world and in Russia at that time who were enduring similar agony and even greater suffering. I tried very hard not to worry about what tomorrow would bring, what I should eat, or what I should wear, but rather to seek the kingdom of God and his justice, his will for me and for all mankind.

"Thy will be done." That was the key, but only slowly did I come to experience how perfect a prayer is the Our Father, the Lord's Prayer. "Lord, teach us how to pray", the disciples had said, and in his answer, the Lord had explained the whole theology of prayer in the most simple terms, exhaustive in its content, and yet intended for the use of all men without distinction. The human mind could not elaborate a better pattern in prayer than the one the Lord himself gave us.

He begins by placing us in the presence of God. God the almighty, who has created all things out of nothingness and keeps them in existence lest they return to nothingness, who rules all things and governs all things in the heavens and on earth according to the designs of his own providence. And yet this same all-powerful God is our Father, who cherishes us and looks after us as his sons, who provides for us in his own loving kindness, guides us in his wisdom, who watches over us daily to shelter us from harm, to provide us food, to receive us back with open arms when we, like the prodigal, have wasted our inheritance. Even as a father guards his children, he guards us from evil--because evil does exist in the world..."

When masking is harmful to your health

Very often wearing a mask can be harmful to your health. The lack of oxygen, visibility, feelings of panic, and disorientation…..

This morning I dutifully wore a mask when I attended mass at the Annunciation at 9 am. I’ve had some kind of unpleasant, respiratory condition for over a week, which includes a cough.

When Mike and I arrived at mass he noticed a strong smell of perfume. I didn’t at first, however, after a short while I started to have trouble breathing and felt panicky and the coughing followed which was way worse than usual.

Still wearing my mask, I made my way to the washroom coughing all the while. Thankfully I was alone in the lady’s room on the verge of throwing up. Then I had the sensibility to remove the mask and that is when I noticed the smell of some kind of perfume. Of course, I threw it away, tried not to panic, took some deep breaths, put on a new mask, and went out to the lobby, where I stayed until communion No more coughing or shortness of breath.

I have allergies, as most of us do. When Debbie was born the tape they used in the hospital to hold the epidural needle in place caused my entire back to turn red and itchy. It turns out I was allergic to the glue on the tape. Sometimes I will have an allergic reaction to a leather watch strap. Spring and Fall were very difficult when we lived on Loyola avenue but since we moved to Blue Jay Crescent no problem, I remember one time my lower eyelid puffed up like a balloon. It turned out to probably be the dish soap I was using

Allergies can be dangerous. And masking too.

Thankfully I can eat peanut butter yeah!!!!!!!!

What Hell Must be Like, Father Walter Siszek S.J.

What Hell Must be Like

“ The world of solitary confinement is a universe of its own...the isolation...the silence...the interrogations that would go on for 24 or 48 hours with no rest no sleep no food...the psychological...the minutes of silence and solitary routine stretched out without end...

There was no such sort of human companionship to sustain you at Lubianka. When you came back from an interrogation session here, you were on your own. You could only torture yourself by going over and over the session in your own mind, wondering whether what you had said was right, or what you might have done better, agonizing again and again over every question and every answer. Here there was no relief to be sought by talking it over with somebody else, by asking advice (poor as it might prove to be), by sharing experiences, and by sympathizing with one another.

Solitary confinement, in short, must be very much like what some theologians paint as the principal torment of hell: the soul, at last, recognizing its mistakes for what they were and condemned forever to the loss of heaven, constantly tormenting itself with reproaches and tearing itself apart because it still sees and understands and wants the things it has lost forever, but knows it is condemned to lose forever because of its own choices, its own failings, its own mistakes..."

They wonder why we have a shortage of doctors in Canada

Well, this is probably why. As you know, doctors have lost their conscience rights! It's despicable how our Federal Government treats our doctors, nurses, and other healthcare professionals

Canada's expanding MAID program leading to a crisis in the supply of 'willing' doctors

The number of MAID deaths has grown from just over 1,000 in 2016, when assisted dying in Canada was formally legalized, to 31,644 in 2021

First worldwide women's rosary honoring Blessed Virgin Mary announced Dec. 8, 2022

First worldwide women's rosary honoring Blessed Virgin Mary announced

With the purpose of honoring the Blessed Virgin Mary on the Solemnity of the Immaculate Conception, the Worldwide Women’s Rosary
will be held for the first time on Dec. 8.

An initiative to hold a public women’s rosary that originated in Colombia has taken off worldwide with interested women connecting through Instagram.

With the purpose of honoring the Blessed Virgin Mary on the Solemnity of the Immaculate Conception, the Worldwide Women’s Rosary will be held for the first time on Dec. 8.

This initiative aims to publicly unite women in defense of churches (often vandalized by abortion advocates in Latin America), life, motherhood, the family, and to proudly say to the whole world “we are daughters of the Blessed Virgin Mary and we want to follow her example,” the organizers said.

Another aim of this rosary effort is to express the search for peace that only God can give and the firm conviction that every human person is equal in dignity.

The organizers recognize that the vocation to be a woman doesn’t depend on age, education, health, or any particular condition, “but on the conviction that God created each one of us and chose us to entrust us with a special mission.”

“We are called to be representatives of our Blessed Virgin Mary” in every word, event, or place that they can influence, the organizers said.

“We believe in the power of prayer to change the world, and especially in the power of the rosary, which Our Lady has strongly requested for the spiritual battle against evil in the world and in our countries,” they added.

The organizers are calling on women from all over the planet to join this effort to pray the rosary in public. “Mother, here are your daughters,” they said.

Women from more than 25 countries have already confirmed their participation, including women from Argentina, Australia, Bolivia, Brazil, Canada, Chile, Colombia, Costa Rica, Ecuador, El Salvador, Spain, the United States, the United Arab Emirates, Guatemala, Honduras, Italy, Mexico, Nicaragua, Panama, Paraguay, Peru, Puerto Rico, the Dominican Republic, Uganda, Uruguay, and Venezuela.

“It was the Virgin who wanted this initiative to spread worldwide,” said Juliana Illario, coordinator of the effort in Argentina.

“I immediately felt part of it,” she related in a conversation with ACI Prensa, CNA’s Spanish-language sister news agency, “Our Virgin is the initiator and world organizer.”

“It’s all happening: women from different corners of Argentina contact me and they join in.”

“We trust that this is all the work of the Mother, and her daughters listen to her,” Illario said.

The Argentine coordinator noted that those promoting the worldwide rosary are women with different charisms, who have Mary as a model of women and Mother.

Finally, she hoped “that day would be filled with women praying together” because “no one guided by Mary makes a misstep.”

Fanny Tagle Arrizaga, another of the organizers from Chile, admitted that the initiative surprised them from the beginning, “because we realize how it’s growing every day. And the most incredible thing is the unity that is created with the different charisms and countries.”

“Our Mother’s love is making us realize that there are no differences between her daughters,” she said.

“We’re happy because we lay people are responsible for cooperating with the truth of Our Lord, and we have to comply with the utmost diligence with everything that Our Mother asks of us, especially praying the holy rosary that gives us so many graces,” she added.

School Board says educators should be able to express their “lived gender,” as, not allowing so, could lead to lawsuits.

So there you have it; anything goes now because the Board is afraid of lawsuits.

Never mind protecting the students. it seems they don't care about the mental health of their teachers either

The Purest Act of Faith - from He Leadeth Me - Walter J. Ciszek S.J

“I had always trusted in God. I had always tried to find his will, to see his providence at work. I had always seen my life and my destiny as guided by his will. At some moments more consciously than at others, I had been aware of his promptings, his call, his promises, his grace. At times of crisis, especially, I tried to discover his will and follow it to the best of my ability. But this was a new vision, a totally new understanding, something more than just a matter of emphasis.

Up until now, I had always seen my role—man's role—in the divine economy as an active one. Up to this time, I had retained in my own hands the reins of all decisions, actions, and endeavors; I saw it now as my task to "cooperate" with his grace, to be involved to the end in the working out of salvation. God's will was "out there" somewhere, hidden, yet clear and unmistakable. It was my role—man's role— to discover what it was and then conform my will to that, and so work at achieving the ends of his divine providence. I remained—man remained—in essence, the master of my own destiny. Perfection consisted simply in learning to discover God's will in every situation and then bending every effort to do what must be done.

Now, with sudden and almost blinding clarity and simplicity, I realized I had been trying to do something with my own will and intellect that was at once too much and mostly all wrong. God's will was not hidden somewhere "out there" in the situations in which I found myself; the situations themselves were his will for me. What he wanted was for me to accept these situations from his hands, to let go of the reins and place myself entirely at his disposal. He was asking He of me an act of total trust, allowing for no interference or restless striving on my part, no reservations, no exceptions, no areas where I could set conditions or seem to hesitate. He was asking for a complete gift of self, nothing held back. It demanded absolute faith: faith in God's existence, in his providence, in his concern for the minutest detail, in his power to sustain me, and in his love protecting me. It meant losing the last hidden doubt, the ultimate fear that God will not be there to bear you up.

It was something like that awful eternity between anxiety and belief when a child first leans back and lets go of all support whatever—only to find that the water truly holds him up and he can float motionless and totally relaxed.

Once understood, it seemed so simple. I was amazed it had taken me so long in terms of time and suffering to learn this truth. Of course, we believe that we depend on God, that his will sustains us in every moment of our life. But we are afraid to put it to the test. There remains deep down in each of us a little nagging doubt, a little knot of fear that we refuse to face or admit even to ourselves, that says, "Suppose it isn't so." We are afraid to abandon ourselves totally into God's hands for fear he will not catch us as we fall. It is the ultimate criterion, the final test of all faith and all belief, and it is present in each of us, lurking unvoiced in a closet of our mind we are afraid to open. It is not really a question of trust in God at all, for we want very much to trust him; it is really a question of our ultimate belief in his existence and his providence, and it demands the purest act of faith..."
