August 8, 2018 - at the Kiosk

For about a year and a half now I have had the privilege of making rosaries for Blessed Sacrament parish. Last week Angelina mentioned to me that  the rosary basket was empty and so I got busy and made a few dozen this past weekend

Most Wednesday afternoons  Dennis and Angelina Girard have a program DnA live from the Kiosk so I thought it would be a good day to drop by with the rosaries and stay for the presentations. 

Today there were two awesome guests: Sebastian Muggeridge and  Dominic Crouzat. They both gave very powerful testimonies.  Sebastian Muggeridge is a seminarian with the Companions of the Cross. 

After their talks, Fr. Tim Nelligan spoke a little about St. Dominic and closed with a beautiful prayer.

The Feast of St. Dominic is celebrated on August 8th. ST. DOMINIC was born in Spain, in 1170. As a student, he sold his books to feed the poor in a famine, and offered himself in ransom for a slave. At the age of twenty-five he became superior of the Canons Regular of Osma, and accompanied his Bishop to France. There his heart was well-nigh broken by the ravages of the Albigenian heresy, and his life was henceforth devoted to the conversion of heretics and the defence of the Faith. For this end he established his threefold religious Order. The convent for nuns was founded first, to rescue young girls from heresy and crime. Then a company of apostolic men gathered around him, and became the Order of Friar Preachers. Lastly came the Tertiaries, persons of both sexes living in the world. God blessed the new Order, and France, Italy, Spain, and England welcomed the Preaching Friars. Our Lady took them under her special protection, and whispered to St. Dominic as he preached. It was in 1208, while St. Dominic knelt in the little chapel of Notre Dame de la Prouille, and implored the great Mother of God to save the Church, that Our Lady appeared to him, gave him the Rosary, and bade him go forth and preach. Beads in hand, he revived the courage of the Catholic troops, led them to victory against overwhelming numbers, and finally crushed the heresy. His nights were spent in prayer; and, though pure as a virgin, thrice before morning broke he scourged himself to blood. His words rescued countless souls, and three times raised the dead to life. At length, on August 6, 1221, at the age of fifty-one, he gave up his soul to God. Reflection.—”God has never,” said St. Dominic, “refused me what I have asked;” and he has left us the Rosary, that we may learn, with Mary’s help, to pray easily and simply in the same holy trust. Run With Life: Hate crime at Vancouver Crisis Pregnancy Centre

Run With Life: Hate crime at Vancouver Crisis Pregnancy Centre: This past Monday, the exterior of the Crisis Pregnancy Centre of Vancouver was vandalized. Red paint was thrown at all their windows, doors, signage, and the sidewalk entrance. Offensive language was scribbled in the red paint.
There were thousands of dollars in damage to the centre. The centre's signage is probably not salvageable so will have to be replaced.

Meet Our New Priests

  I am from Summer Side, PEI, born into a military family so I have lived almost everywhere. My family final settled in Kingston. After high school I had been studying electrical engineering (poorly) when I began discerning the call to the priesthood. I was originally ordained for the Kingston Archdiocese in 1994, but I have been living with the Companions of the Cross Community since 2005. I made my final promises with the Companions on Sept 14th 2011. My personal interests are a bit varied; I have a sailboat and was involved in racing during my time in Halifax. I hope to get back to skiing now that I am living closer to the mountains and at one time was into white water canoeing. I do play golf, but primarily as a penance for past sins! I joined the Companions because I was interested in parish renewal and I was not so interested in the prospect of living and working alone for the remainder of my priesthood. I have served as a pastor for most of my priesthood in both the Archdiocese of Kingston and of Halifax. I was chaplain at Dalhousie and St. Mary's Universities and Director of Evangelization for Halifax prior to being appointed Vocations and Admissions Director for the Companions of the Cross. Two years ago was also elected to the Companions Executive Council and given the role of Secretary General. I look forward to getting to know you all as your priest at Annunciation and in serving you as best as I am able and as the Lord would have me.

  I am originally from Toronto, having lived there for 27 years. Before joining the Companions of the Cross I was working at a food distribution company in Ottawa. I also have experience as an auto mechanic. While I was living and working in Ottawa I joined St. Mary’s Parish and became involved with the Young Adults community. After taking a Life in the Spirit seminar I began to hear God asking me to consider the priesthood. After months of prayer and personal discernment I approached Fr. Bob Bedard who encouraged me to explore this call further and to move into the Companions household. This I did the following September 1993. I spent the next 7 years studying and discerning the call and each year seemed to confirm my vocation to priesthood and to the Companions of the Cross. I was ordained to the priesthood June 10th, 2000 and spent some time ministering at St. Timothy’s in Toronto. I recently served as the associate pastor of St. Mary's Parish and before that at St Maurice’s in the West end. I like to do wood working, and although I am trying to keep this quiet, I can cook (man style)! I am very happy to be with all of you at Annunciation and look forward to getting to know you better.
