Grandma Growing Up: The Present / Thanksgiving 2022

Father Rob's homily today inspired me to post this again
( taken from my Grandma Growing Up blog )

Grandma Growing Up: The Present

It was a gift like no other. It was passed down to me from mommy and daddy but also from my grandparents and my great-grandparents

I received it early on and it has always stayed with me. I couldn’t, wouldn’t let it out of my sight, so I took it with me everywhere I went. It was with me when I slept when I played when I helped mommy and daddy when I was happy and when I was sad, during hard times, during happy times, when the world made sense and when it didn’t: It WAS, it IS the gift of my FAITH

Annunciation of the Lord Parish Ottawa ON Canada - Summer 2022

Mass Wednesday morning yesterday in the Parish hall
While renovations were being made to make the altar more accessible
Father Rob was cute. He said it was like a "camping mass"
The church hall was the location of the Vacation Bible School last week

Praying the Rosary on Tuesday morning after mass.
We started at the Grotto but when it started raining we moved to the front door of the church
but first Luzia and Margaret took refuge under the tree ( silly girls )
Then we continued to the front doors.

Legion of Mary - Acies Ceremony

This year, in lieu of the annual Acies where we reconsecrate ourselves to Our Lady
on the feast of the Annunciation we are recommending an alternative to us gathering for the ceremony. This year we are hoping you will join us in doing a Spiritual Acies.
These prayers in a sense are going to take the place of the spiritual portion of the Acies.
Everyone will be on their own doing this in their own homes.

PROGRAM for Wednesday 25 March:

At 6:30 pm we will begin with the opening prayers in the Tessera,
followed by five decades of the Holy Rosary.

Then right after we will recite the Catena.

Then in front of a statue or image of Our Lady we will renew our consecration to Jesus through Mary by reciting the following prayer: "I am all yours, my Queen, my Mother, and all that I have is yours."

Then recite the concluding prayers in the Tessera.

At 7:30 pm EST please pause and recollect as
Father Shroff will recite an act of consecration for the Regia as a whole.
If you do join us in this Spiritual Acies,
we would love to know so would you kindly reply to Jennifer Snell Jennifersnell2000@yahoo.ca

Be Christ Bearers for the World

Today Father Rob Arsenault celebrates his 25th Anniversary as a priest.  How blessed are we as a parish to have been able to join in this celebration with the beautiful mass this morning followed by adoration until 4:00PM with Deacon Marc Gauthier

Father Rob and Father John concelebrated mass and Father Rob gave the homily. He spoke of sacrifice: offering up to appease God.. He quoted from Bishop Baron "Catholicism is an inversion. God offers Himself up to appease us.

On the altar we offer the simple elements of bread and wine. We offer this to God who in turn gives us the Body and Blood Soul and Divinity of His Son, Jesus Christ.

When you eat food, your body breaks it down. It becomes you. When we receive Holy Communion worthily we become more like Christ for the benefit of those who were not at mass today.

If the priest is willing to sacrifice himself for us, our role is to sacrifice ourselves for the world: to be evangelizers, to be Christ bearers.

If God can use simple elements like bread and wine He can use you and me.

Be a Christ Bearer and do not be afraid.

Father Rob also asked us to pray for priests

Viva Cristo Rey!

Yesterday Father Rob Arsenault had the entire congregation saying Viva Cristo Rey during his homily. I thought it was awesome. I will provide a link to his homily when it comes available.
Father said ``What matters to God is you. You are more valuable to God than Notre Dame Cathedral. You are an eternal being. The reason for your great value is the redemption that has been wrought for you in the resurrection of Jesus Christ. Jesus Christ is risen! Our hope dawns in the resurrection.

You can listen to Father Rob`s homily at this link

Father told us about Padre Pro and his brother Humberto who were executed by a firing squad in Mexico  in 1927. President Calles had news photographers present, expecting the Pros to die cowardly. But Padre Pro refused the blindfold and welcomed the bullets with his arms extended in the form of a cross, crying out, “Viva Cristo Rey!” Although Calles outlawed any public demonstration, thousands of Mexicans defiantly lined the streets, honoring the martyr as he was carried in procession to his grave.

Annunciation of the Lord - Parish Feast Day- March 25, 2019

I have heard it said that the Feast of the Annunciation is greater than any other.
This evening we had a beautiful Mass celebrated by Fr. John Likozar. Fr. Rob Arsenault and Fr. Dennis Hayes and assisted by Deacon Marc Gauthier and Deacon Will Read. Father Rob's homily was awesome and the music provided by Janet Warren was wonderful. I will provide a link to Father Rob's homily when it is on the Parish website.

Lord help us to want, what you are giving! - Homily Father Rob Arsenault

Father Rob`s Homily this past Sunday was really, really, really good! Father concluded with the prayer below

In the name of Jesus, seek counsel for your life
Lord Jesus we believe you are who you say you are, believe that you are capable of  the things that you say you can do, we believe that you are aware of us and that you are active, that you are real, that you are true, that you are loving, and you are present. We pray that your Holy Spirit will come alive in the hearts, the minds, the imaginations, the memories of your people. Maybe where that is hurt, there would be healing, where there is doubt there would be faith, where there is confusion there would be clarity and wisdom. We do not put limits on what you can do or how you might want to communicate, we simply want to make you welcome in our lives. Pray that you want to move in a new and powerful and loving way. That we would come to know you personally and actively and reflect that truth to those people in our lives, in our work places and in our world. Mother Mary we pray that you would intercede for us and teach us the ways of your Son. Pray to the saints and angels to watch over us and protect us. Almighty God watch over, affirm, guide and protect in the name of Jesus Christ we pray. Father, Son and Holy Spirit.. Amen

Eucharistic Adoration at the Annunciation of the Lord Parish

When I arrived for mass this morning, Deacon Marc Gauthier mentioned to me that today is the first anniversary of Tuesday Adoration in our Parish of the Annunciation of the Lord in Ottawa. Every Tuesday we have the Exposition of the Blessed Sacrament which begins after the 9:00am Mass and concludes with Benediction and the Divine Praises around 4:00pm. What a Grace this has been for our parish.

A few weeks ago Father Rob said it doesn't have to be complicated when praying before Jesus in the Blessed Sacrament. "Look at Jesus as he looks to you and talk to Him"

And today in his homily Deacon Marc said "how wonderful it is to be in the presence of someone who really loves you, and Jesus really loves you!"

Thank you Jesus!

I believe, I adore, I trust and I love You.
I beg pardon for those who do not believe,
do not adore, do not trust and do not love You

I believe, I adore, I trust and I love You.
I beg pardon for those who do not believe,
do not adore, do not trust and do not love You

Sunday, August 19, 2018 - Beginning with Mass -

-Beginning with Mass

Twentieth Sunday in Ordinary Time

Mass today was concelebrated by our two priests Fr. John Likozar C.C. and Fr. Rob Arsenault C.C.

Fr. Rob gave the homily. And as usual the homily was really good. All our priests give wonderful homilies. We are truly blessed.

Father began with the conversion story of CS Lewis. I didn't know this but Lewis was friends with J.R. Tolkein.

Lewis had a radio program during the second world war and was more or less a Chaplain for the War effort .

He wasn't always a man of faith however. He was born in Northern Ireland, sent to a boarding school and attended university and during the First World War he had no faith at all but he ached for something more. The next 15 years I guess could be called his spiritual journey. He felt there had to be something more to life but he couldn't turn the corner on Christianity: there was always some doubt.

During that time he used to go to a local pub with his friend JRTolkien and a couple of others fellows.  Here they had discussions on the mysteries of Christianity: creation, redemption the eucharist  etc. They didn’t ask  "Is it true ?"  "Is it real?" They asked themselves: what does it mean, to be created? To have redemption? What does it mean to have a place in eternity? What does it mean to be known and loved by God?

It was in this environment, with a small group of men with hopes and dreams similar to himself that led CS Lewis to the Truth of Christianity.

Fr. Rob spoke of the power of the Eucharist which is the Body and Blood Soul and Divinity of Our Lord Jesus Christ which is food for our journey. With the Eucharist we can transcend this present age: our circumstances. When we partake of the Body and Blood of Christ we become more like Christ. We can become that better person. Our wounds can be healed. And we can share this goodness with others.

Father  said that if one the greatest minds of the last century needed a friend to help know these truths then what about you and me? So he suggested the Faith Formation Sessions in our Parish which will be available again this Fall. It takes a bit of effort but what we receive is like a gold mine which never ends; there is always more. God is not done with us yet. He loves us too much .

Amen

 Part 2

After lunch I dropped over to Debbie's  for a short visit  on my way for a little gathering at Pat's with Johanna and Maude and their little girls, Agnes and Juliet
Here's Chewie .
Dino got relegated to the basement because he is too friendly and would have jumped on me.
 Sorry Dino
I'm not allowed to take Debbie's photo so...….
I think she just means I can't photograph her face

Matthew is ok with having his photo taken .
Notice the tatoo. He's got more on his legs

Part 3- "Maloneys in the Wild"
aka "the loud Maloneys"
Pat told granddaughter Agnes who was coming over and
Agnes answered "They are really loud"

Paula  and Sebastian and the umbrella are colour coordinated

I was leaving and forgot my slippers
I put them down when I rummaged through my purse looking for my phone which was in the living room. So after Pat fetched my phone I left without my slippers

Thank you Lord for another day!
